People usually have behavior patterns as do systems. So either at home or at work their are somewhat reliable patterns or habits to work with. Often people do not change just if you ask them to so one needs to be prepared and rehearsed in what I call assertive negotiation.
Assertion is neither avoidance nor aggression I am thinking some where in-between. Should you leave you negotiations to chance or at least a confrontation then I would say that you might have a hand in manufacturing your own drama and suffering.
