Who has the last word? At work? In team meetings? During informal chats? Who needs to have the last word? Any why?
My working hypothesis is control and attachment to a reality and an outcome the person is seeking to dictate. I want to write more on this, “The Last Word ” as it relates to business suffering, chaos and crisis. I am not sure if there is enough done or written about the level of suffering and damage that businesses inflict upon themselves. The dysfunction of teams by Lencioni I think is required reading for any business leader or systems manager.
What does this have to do with invalidation? The last word or needing to get in the last word denies and disregards the other persons thoughts, words, ideas and experiences. It merely demonstrates the high level of ignorance for the social conversational context.
